Montessori

Montessori pedagogy is based on providing a prepared learning environment that promotes the development of a child’s social, intellectual, and moral independence within a framework of freedom. In Montessori educational settings, freedom is understood as the ability to make decisions and manage their consequences. This freedom allows children to develop autonomy and take on responsibilities appropriate to their age.

Montessori is not limited to a theoretical foundation; it is defined as an integrated methodology that provides a detailed program for each of the concepts that make up the preschool and elementary curriculum.

The principles underlying Montessori pedagogy were developed by Dr. María Montessori and have been enriched over more than a century of practice in Montessori environments around the world. The evidence gathered shows that this approach fosters self-esteem, self-discipline, concentration, creativity, a love of learning, and the desire to contribute to the well-being of the group. The breadth and depth of knowledge accumulated and shared by Montessori educators is arguably unique in the field of education.

In recent years, research in the fields of psychology and neuroscience has compared Montessori principles with recent advances in education. Likewise, Montessori educational outcomes have been evaluated against national and international academic performance standards. These principles and outcomes have stood up well to scrutiny, demonstrating that Montessori anticipated many of the educational goals and challenges that are now seen as key in the 21st century.

Why AMI?

The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), founded by María Montessori in 1929, is a global organization dedicated to preserving her legacy through adult education, research, and the establishment of quality standards in over 30 countries. Its mission is to support human development from birth to maturity, enabling children to become agents of change and contribute to a more harmonious and peaceful world.

Our school meets the criteria established by the Asociación Montessori Española, affiliated with AMI, which ensure the correct application of Montessori principles according to AMI standards:

We incorporate uninterrupted Montessori work cycles into the daily routine.

Our learning environments are fully equipped with Montessori materials appropriate for each educational stage.

We have teachers trained by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).

Our student groups are mixed-age, following the principles of Montessori pedagogy.
